| Safari
Transport: |
| Ground
transport in Tanzania is provided in safe, specially-equipped safari
vehicles with roof hatches for wildlife observation and photography.
These vehicle are rugged enough to travel easily cross-country, but
still remain comfortable. Five to six participant normally travel
in each vehicle and the vehicles are driven by professional safari
driver/guides. |
| Deposits
and Final Payments: |
| A
deposit of US$500 with the complete reservation form is required.
Final payment of the land fee is due 60 days prior to departure. |
| Cancellation
and Refunds: |
| The
initial deposit for the safari is refundable up to 60 days before
departure, less a US$ 150 handling fee. Between 60 and 30 days before
departure, 50% of the safari cost will be refunded. Unless a suitable
replacement is found, there will be no refunds for any cancellation
within 30 days of departure. There are no refunds for any unused meals,
accommodations or other safari activities. For tours which include
both land cost and airfare, cancellation fees apply to the entire
cost. |
| Insurance:
|
| All
participants are strongly advised to secure Travel Insurance for accident,
sickness, emergency medical, baggage and trip cancellation. We recommend
paying the nominal fee for the services of the Flying Doctors. We
will provide you this information. |
| Getting
to Tanzania: |
| There
are plenty of flights from the United States and Europe to Tanzania.
Most people fly into Dar Es Salaam but there are also international
flights to Kilimanjaro International airport, near Arusha, and to
Zanzibar. Airlines serving Tanzania are Air Tanzania, Aeroflot, Air
Zimbabwe, Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, Egypt Air, Ethiopian
Airlines, Gulf Air, Kenya Airways, KLM, Royal Swazi, Swiss Air, Alliance
Air and Zambia Airways. |
| Getting
Around: |
|
Air
Tanzania has regular flights between main towns. There are three
main railway lines in Tanzania - The northern central and the two
Tazara lines. Trains are reliable and comfortable. There are three
classes. The sole point of entry into Tanzania by rail is from Zambia,
on the TANZAM railway.
Tanzania
can be reached via Lake Tanganyika, Lake Victoria and the Indian
ocean. The steamship MV Liemba runs scheduled services from Burundi
and Zambia across Lake Tanganyika to Kigoma. Lake Victoria offers
a ferry service between Mwanza and Bukoba in Tanzania and Port Bell
in Uganda. Ocean going liners link Dar Es Salaam and Mombasa in
Kenya. The best way to enter Tanzania overland is from Kenya. Road
conditions vary.

| Health:
|
| A
yellow fever vaccination certificate is essential if arriving from
yellow fever infected areas. Malaria exists below 1,800m in Malignant
falciparum form. Your public health authorities can advise you on
the shots and pills you will need for your trip. Private health insurance
is recommended and we will help you obtain a temporary Flying Doctors
membership (US$ 25 for two months) as it is essential in the unlikely
event emergency medical service is required. |
| Visas: |
| Visas
are required by all - except citizens of Commonwealth and Scandinavian
countries and the Republic of Ireland. Visas are obtainable from Tanzanian
embassies or at port of entry. The visa fee depends on the type of
passport held. A visitor's pass is required for all travelers. This
pass can be obtained free from any Tanzanian diplomatic mission or
point of entry. It is advisable to get one before you leave home. |
| Immigration
and customs: |
| An
onward ticket and sufficient funds are required when entering Tanzania.

Tax: |
| An
airport tax of US$ 20 must be paid in cash (US$) on departure. |
| Currency: |
| The
Tanzania shilling is equivalent to 100 cents. Bureaux de change offer
favourable exchange rates. Credit Cards - Visa, Mastercard, and AMEX
are accepted at the larger hotels around the country. There is no
limit on the importation of foreign currency. |
| Banking
Hours: |
| Monday
to Friday 08:30 hrs to 03:00 pm and Saturday 08:30 to 11:30 hrs. Some
banks and bureaux de change open until 16:00 hrs. |
| Electricity:

| The
local electricity supply is 230 volts, 50 cycles AC. |

official languages are Swahili and English and there are more than
120 tribal vernaculars. |
